Photo Contest

The Cullinan Park Conservancy invites you to join in the second annual public photo contest for images taken at the Joseph S. and Lucie H. Cullinan Park at Oyster Creek (please download and print the attached flyer to help spread the word!).

As an effort to bring more visitors to the Park, and to raise the appreciation for the extraordinary natural resources at the Park, we welcome all photographers to submit images of landscape and wildlife for consideration. No fee will be charged for entries. Please see this gallery of photos taken at the Park as examples of the beauty that can be found there!

There will be prizes, and winners will be exhibited on the Cullinan Park Conservancy website, as well as at the Sugar Land branch of the Houston Museum of Natural Sciences.

Photo entries can be submitted through client-side email by selecting the green button below. If you prefer to use web-based email, such as yahoo or gmail, please simply send an email, one per image, to cullinanparkconservancy@gmail.com, giving the title of the piece, the name, address, and phone number of the entrant, and attaching the image file.

 - Official Rules

The basic structure of the contest is described below. For more detailed rules, please view the Official Rules

Timeline: The contest runs from 12:00 a.m., Central Daylight Time, in the morning on Monday, April 23, 2012 through 5PM, Central Daylight Time, on Monday, April 1, 2013. Winning photographs will be shown in celebration of Earth Day, during April of 2013.

Boundaries: All photos must be taken within the borders of the Joseph S. and Lucie H. Cullinan Park at Oyster Creek, located to the west of Highway 6, north of US 90, in Sugar Land, Texas.

Registration fees: This is the inaugural photo contest, and so all fees are waived to encourage participation.

Submission: Only electronic images will be considered. The Conservancy recommends that images of relatively high resolution, at least 2 megapixels or higher, be submitted. Contestants must submit the image files by email, with a link available at http://cullinanparkconservancy.org/participate/photo-contest-2/ Participants may submit no more than 10 images.

Judging: Images will be initially reviewed by a panel of judges, including Adrienne Barker (Houston Museum of Natural Sciences), Lynn Herbert (formerly with the Houston Center for Photography), Roksan Okan-Vick (Houston Parks Board), and Gina Donovan (Houston Audubon Society). Images chosen by the panel will then be posted on the Cullinan Park Conservancy website.

Prizes and recognition: Winning photographs, with credits, will be displayed on the Cullinan Park Conservancy website, and at the Sugar Land branch of the Houston Museum of Natural Sciences. Prize money and other rewards will be given to the winning photographers in recognition of their fine work, and in thanks for their participation.

Ownership: As a consideration of submitting their photographs for the contest, the participants grant the Cullinan Park Conservancy rights to use these images for educational and promotional purposes.
